Savvy Secrets to Your Sensational Skin
by Linda Leibl

Most of you know the "basics" of skincare and some of the "do's and don'ts"of your application, regime and specifics for your skin type, etc. However, this article will educate you on additional choices you can consider to enhance your "youthful" skin and raise your standards above the "norm" out there.

First of all, 98% of American products are so filled with petroleum and mineral based raw materials, animal based and by-based products, artificial chemicals and fragrances that they are more harmful than helpful to your skin!

Quick Tips for Finding a Perfect Line

First, look for a line of skincare that addresses the "after" effects of sun exposure and aging and offers a total line for your face and your body. You'll want one that offers a sunscreen line for preventative care for your skin, offers hair protection, is water-resistant, (which is more effective than water-proof), is self-tanning, glow enhancers, for men and babies as well as gender specific products.

Also if you are using more than one product line, you are applying too many different formulations to your skin. Like building a car, you need to use specific pieces that were designed and formulated to work together to maximize the performance.

Europe has been on the forefront in the skincare arena for almost 30 years now. European products' integrity and standards are very high compared to those in the U.S. Organic biologists, chemists and herbalists with Ph D's and a lifetime of experience are monitored on an ongoing basis to bring us the latest in cutting edge technology.

You will want to do your research carefully and seek a line that has these properties:

A) Toxic and chemical free, botanically and herbal based and a proprietary blending of science and nature.

B) Ask for a pH correct product to ensure maximum benefits, make sure each product is 'pH correct'.

Not 'pH balanced', but correct. Correct means that each product has been formulated to test between 6.4 and 7.4 on the pH scale. Balanced means that a Cleanser may be 4.5 pH and your Moisturizer 8.2 pH, and together they balance each other. This is why you want pH correct, not balanced. If each of your products are not correct, it will strip the acid mantle off your face, which is like bikini waxing on 3rd degree sun burnt skin. "OUCH" and "SHOCKING" for your skin, which is very unhealthy, of course! Doing this could promote scaring, which we all want to avoid!!! If you strip the acid mantle from your face, your long-term result may be Pre-mature aging! You do not want to look like your Grandmother!

C) You want to ask if the products are tested by voluntary humans under the watchful eye of an independent dermatologist.

D) Substantiation and safety testing is performed at independent laboratories on voluntary human panels and NO testing on animals.

E) Formulated without animal products or by-products. Be sure they have focused product research on plant and herbal compounds only.

F) Formulated without any chemical dyes or fragrances that have known irritants or can cause any reactions.

Healthy Hints for Applying Your Foundation Base

Since we live in the environment we do, you can apply a second coat of makeup for extra protection under your Sunscreen when you are outside, say at a craft fair, riding your horse, by the pool, or playing golf. If you feel you will be out longer than 1-2 hours, just apply a second coat and make sure you blend it well below your jaw and neck areas. It is best to use sponges to blend your foundation evenly in all areas, and to avoid any contamination of your skin.

You can order quality sponges that last a long time at www.arbonne.com, and make sure to rinse them out once a week.
Foundation usually comes in Warm, Cool and Neutral and if you need a Color Test, I can help you with that also.

There is also a new and exciting product that just came out that actually is a blend of vitamins formulated within it that has skin-perfecting pigments, advance blending appeal and anti-aging ingredients that work in harmony to help tone, smooth and minimize the visual appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores. This is a makeup primer that goes under your foundation base and gives a translucent, radiant and glowing look. One of my clients was just raving about it today after her treatment with me.
You want to stay away from any oil-based products on oily skin and matte products on dry skin.

You can use a matte liquid base foundation with a good sponge if your feel your skin is perfect and flawless or a mineral powder with the appropriate brush applicator. Or you can use your matte foundation with a neutral powder on top, depending on the look you are going for.

Also, if you have peach fuzz on your cheeks, brush your powder downward over your cheeks to your jaw and neck line. If you feel your skin needs some concealer, then you want to use a shade slighter lighter than the color or shade of your mineral powder. Do not use concealer over your entire face, only on blemishes or areas under your eye area to lighten any discoloration you may have. Use your concealer first, unless suggested otherwise by the manufacturer. Try both ways to see which gives you a smoother appearance.

Always pay attention to your neck and jaw line, as they should be treated the same way you treat the rest of your face, so your makeup appears as natural as possible. This is especially critical when having your photograph taken. Make sure your makeup continues past your jaw area onto your neck. Why? The camera's light has a tendency to bounce off makeup, giving it an artificial appearance like a mask---very unappealing.

You should also schedule an updated foundation and makeup session every 2-3 years to keep your look "fresh and youthful" because the concepts, techniques and application are always evolving in makeup, just like in the "fashion world".
